Pharmacy council of india
The First "Pharmacy Council" Was Constituted in 1949. It is reconstituted every 5 years. The Pharmacy Council of India is constituted under section 3 of Pharmacy Act, 1948 and consists of the following members.
(A) Elected Members:
(1) Six member elected by "University Grants Commission" From among teachers working in Indian University or College affiliated to Indian University, which grants Degree or Diploma in Pharmacy. Among these there should be at least one teacher of each of the subjects, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacy , Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy.
(2) One member elected from amongst themselves by member of "Medical Council pf India".
(3) One " Registered Pharmacist" to represent each state, elected from amongst theme selves by member of each state council.
(B) Nominated Member:
(1) Six member are nominated by the central Government of whom at least four shall be possessing degree or diploma in pharmacy and are in practice of pharmacy or pharmaceutical chemistry.
(2) A representative of "University Grants Commission" (UGC).
(3) A representative of "All India Council for Technical Education." (A.I.C.T.E)
(4) One registered pharmacist to represent each State nominated by the State Governments.
(c) Ex-officio Members:
(1) The Director General, Health Services, ex-officio.
(2) The Drugs Controller of India, ex-officio.
(3) The Director of Central Drugs Laboratory, ex-officio.
The pharmacy Council of India is corporate body having perpetual succession and a common seal with power to acquire and hold movable and immovable property.
Executive Committee:
(1) President, ex-officio, who shall be the Chairman.
(2) Vice - President, ex-officio.
(3) Five other member, elected by the Central from amongst its member.
Functions of pharmacy Council of India:
(1) To regulate "Pharmacy Institutions" especially " Diploma in pharmacy" through Education Regulation.
(2) To frame periodically "Education Regulation" with approval of central Government for setting new standard in "Pharmacy Education".
(3) To approve or disapprove course of study and examination in pharmacy .
(4) To maintain "Central Register of Pharmacists".
